Because atopic dermatitis affects 20% of children and the quality of life of the whole family, La Roche-Posay supports them and their parents with therapeutic education during practical workshops called “Atopy Schools”, helping them to better manage their condition and their treatment.
This initiative involves a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses and psychologists, all experts in the field, and is proposed to patients in treatment failure or families who feel unsupported.
“Atopy Schools” happen in hospitals or private practice for patients with atopic dermatitis and provide therapeutic education based on the experience, knowledge and expertise shared with other patients.
Parents and children are taught in separate groups; the main aim of the parents’ session is to address the gradual loss of motivation, overcome corticosteroid phobia, explain the complexity of treatments, their side effects and their cost… and remove some of the guilt and stress.

There are 90 “Atopy Schools” in over 23 countries (France, Germany, Argentina, Chile, Taiwan, Canada, etc.)
Therapeutic education increases patients’ autonomy and helps them live more comfortably with their condition. It makes them aware of their own resources to improve their daily life and boost their confidence in the treatment and care of their skin. Patients are able to express the distress caused by other people’s reactions, learn the right way to relieve pain and itching, and understand the disease and its treatment. In bringing the skin condition under control, patients learn to cope with it.
“Atopy Schools” provide a forum where patients can meet people like them. They can share their experiences and problems, receive support and talk with caregivers. It is a meeting place where people can break their sense of isolation.
