The skin hosts millions of microbes per square centimeter. This is what we call the microbiome. There is a specific microbiome on the scalp. To date, one of the actors of the scalp microbiome has been extensively studied: this is Malassezia, a yeast that grows on the dandruff scalp. But this yeast does not act alone. We know that we have 10 times more bacteria that are necessary on the scalp to feed the yeast. The microbiome is altered and unbalanced in dandruff conditions.
