BACKGROUND

Nighttime skincare product containing an optimal combination of antioxidants including resveratrol, baicalin and vitamin E (Resveratrol BE) has been demonstrated effective in facial skin rejuvenation (1). However, the efficacy of Resveratrol BE in delivering clinically relevant improvements for signs of facial skin aging has not been elucidated in Chinese population.

OJECTIVES

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Resveratrol BE for mild-to-moderate photodamaged facial skin to improve signs of skin aging, including fine lines, winkles, elasticity, firmness, roughness and radiance.

INTRODUCTION

Skin aging is an intricate biological process composing both intrinsic and extrinsic factors (2). Aged skin is mainly characterized by the appearance of wrinkles and the reduction of skin firmness. Skin deterioration involves various mechanisms, among which, the generation of ROS playing a significant role in both extrinsic and intrinsic aging process (3). The antioxidant capacity of resveratrol, baicalin and Vitamin E, which are active ingredients of Resveratrol BE, have been confirmed (1). Resveratrol, in particular, functions as a dual antioxidant that can neutralize free radicals and increase intrinsic antioxidant capacity.
