BACKGROUND


Advanced glycation end products (AGE) occur when serum glucose binds to structural proteins in the body. AGE are found increasingly with advanced age and alsoin diabetes, a condition associated with high serum glucose levels and glycation of the nerves leading to neuropathy, glycation of the kidneys leading to nephropathy, and glycation of the blood vessels leading to vasculopathy. AGE can also occur in diabetic skin leading to poor healing and aging skin leading to poor appearance.Research has demonstrated AGE formation has also been observed skin of colorsubjects.
